Backup Tracking and Vehicle Recovery with Asset5 

For decades, vehicle security has relied on alarms, immobilizers, and physical barriers. However, as theft methods become more sophisticated, these measures may no longer be enough. Asset5: A Discreet Backup Tracking Layer 

Asset5 is a compact, battery-powered GPS tracker that can operate as either a primary tracker for assets that do not require constant location updates or as a secondary tracker supporting vehicle and asset recovery.  

In a backup tracking scenario, Asset5 is installed discreetly and paired with the primary tracker via Bluetooth. It is compatible with tracking devices from nearly any manufacturer, as well as with Bluetooth beacons.  

While the primary tracker is active and nearby, Asset5 remains in low-power mode. The main GPS device handles everyday vehicle monitoring, while Asset5 stays in the background and conserves battery power.  

During a theft attempt, the primary device may be disconnected from the vehicle’s power supply, jammed, disabled, or physically removed. If Asset5 no longer detects the primary tracker, it wakes up automatically and begins sending location data according to its preconfigured recovery mode. 

Because it operates using its own internal batteries, disconnecting the vehicle’s power supply does not disable it. Asset5 can therefore provide an independent source of location information after the primary tracking system has been compromised.

Independent Location Reporting  

When recovery mode is activated, Asset5 can increase its reporting frequency to provide more regular location updates. 

It uses GNSS positioning when satellite signals are available. If a stolen vehicle or asset is moved into a warehouse, underground parking area, or another location where satellite reception is limited, Cell ID positioning provides a fallback location based on the available cellular network.  

With 4G connectivity and 2G fallback, Asset5 can transmit data across a range of urban, rural, and remote operating environments.
