How to get into IT without any tech. background? How to deal with product vs project development? How to use LEAN at home?
Ruptela hosted a Women Go Tech program event, in which we answered these questions.
Five Ruptela employees shared their knowledge and experience with program participants. Here are the key takeaways and a short summary.
Gabija went from a graduate student of psychology at Spanish university to an international sales manager with one of the biggest projects in the company. Without any knowledge of IT, Gabija believed that all you need is passion and dedication. Gabija says, “technological knowledge can be acquired with some effort, but the most important are personal qualities – empathy, ability to listen and work with your team.”
Marius went from professional theatre actor and director to a product owner. Being 30 years old he turned to a career in IT and successfully pursued it. As he says “there is no clear formula for such a change as there is no clear formula for being a product owner. You have to always look for what is working in a given context and what‘s not”.
Tomas spoke about Agile and Waterfall methodologies and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using them in product and project development. At Ruptela both methods are used and sometimes even a mix of them.
Arnoldas, commercial project portfolio manager, showed how Ruptela decides which products and projects to go with. After explaining the process, he adds “every day we all decide which project to go with, so set clear evaluation criteria and choose with confidence and courage”.
Karolis, business process manager, talked about LEAN methodology and introduced to other management methods such as PDCA and DMAIC. He also showed how to apply LEAN at home – for weekly shopping and various housework.
We believe this event was a worthy addition to the Women Go Tech program. More about Women Go Tech program – www.womengotech.lt
